Forensic of Things

Digital (computer) forensic investigation is a relatively mature arena having formal standardization of key processes followed by forensic investigator as well as law enforcement agencies (LEAs). Traditional digital forensic procedure typically falls short of achieving evidence collection and preservation goals when applied to the IoT ecosystem.

The present project studies the application of existing digital forensic techniques and their level of compatibility and usefulness for IoT. Additionally, further novel procedures are being devised to apply the principles of network and cloud forensics in tandem with traditional approaches to retrieve and present forensic artefacts from IoT devices. The project will be realized through design and formal testing of an IoT-based forensic framework taking into account the challenges that the amount of data and diversity IoT technology presents.
